I thought the U.S. economy was supposed to get better after news of Trump getting elected. Why are all these layoffs (Meta, Microsoft) in Tech happening?!? 😭😭😭

Because Trump is a felon and a con-artist cult leader.

Keep your personal comments off here, they are not needed, and you arent a church goer,, lol.

Because the economy NEVER gets better with “conservatives” in control of anything.

They just scream it a lot and people foolishly believe it.

Numbers don’t lie. Just look up economic performance the last 60 years.

likefunnysmarthelpful

No,
It’s more like one party is setting everything on fire that would be the “conservatives” and the other is scared to haul off and beat the crap out of them for doing it after they put the fire out because 1/2 of the people forget who sets the fire in the first place.
Being the adults in the room everyone looks at the “liberal” party like they should be able to fix everything overnight.

That never works.

Because Trump supports replacing American workers. Companies are even more confident that they can get rid of people now.

likefunnysmart

Exactly. The way people are brainwashed. Trump said from his own mouth he thought the H1B program was not good. Many years later with Elon at his side it’s suddenly a great program and he himself even uses it 🙄

What happen to America first? Ahh. He meant American profits first, Americans last.

likefunnysmart

Because despite what everyone is telling you, the president can’t actually control the economy. The economy will do what the economy will do. There’s too much going on in the WORLD for one guy (or one country) to make much difference. ALSO the key to a better economy is to give people more buying power. More buying power = more demand. More demand = more jobs. Everyone needs to take Economics 101. We are all so against equalizing pay, but pooling most of the $$ with the top 1% is literally taking money out of the system leaving less for everyone else and therefore less to spend. It’s an economy killer.

likesmarthelpful

Can't say I'm an expert but from what I've seen the distractions doesn't seem so brilliant. But I guess they won the election so...

Tariffs constrict trade.
Industries getting in front of an US economy that will constrict and slow.
History repeating itself.

Does anyone else remember in 2022 when everyone was saying how great the job market was and how great everything was and how liberal CEOs were championing democrats to win rah! rah!, then right after the midterms TENS OF THOUSANDS of people in tech in the SF Bay Area lost their jobs starting literally right after the election was over?
Anyone?
Look people, You can blame Orange Man Bad. You can blame the creepy sniffing pardoning president. You can blame republicans. You can blame democrats. Just keep this one thing in mind, those people win when we’re all divided and hate each other.

likesmarthelpful

I don't blame Orange Man Bad, I blame both sides and their greedy America Last propositions. It's a case of globalist vs everyone, that's the real breakdown here.

How was the “economy” supposed to “get better” on news of Trump winning? Wouldn’t actual policy and leadership need to be implemented first? Last I checked bird brain and the cackling hyaena are still running the executive branch.

likefunnyhelpful

I'll take a cackling hyena over a convicted orangutan any day.

The overall economy can be booming while individual sectors struggle. That's what we're seeing here.

Technology companies are laying off employees not because the entire market is going to collapse, but because they themselves have eaten too much in the past few years and now need to "lose weight" while saving energy and food to grab the next big cake called "AI".

The Biden-Harris effect...Dems did a lot of damage and it will naturally take a bit of loss before there is recovery (as long as DJT and his team stick to their word and so far he is saying and doing the right things).

likefunnyhelpful

I love how they give the first entire year of his first term to Obama as credit, but as soon as he's in this time they 100% expect it to be fixed right away. Not very smart people

When you replace one stack or billionaires with another stack of billionaires you get a different set of pigs at the same trough. The layoffs are business as usual, and have nothing to do with the flavour of your government. That said, it is fascinating so many working people fall for the same nonsense pretences from the usual suspects every time. (And not just in the US.) Expect more layoffs in the name of optimizing, downsizing, and so on. It’s the standard profit taking cycle. And it has zilch to do with who holds power beyond the fact all of them are elites, wealthy, and playing games with the lives and futures of wage slaves.

like

The biggest layoffs are going to be in the over-bloated government sector

Layoffs and the economy aren't always linked.

Educated people let their love for trump make them sound like morons. I am not into your American politics. I don’t care for it but I do know and you all do know trump is a moron. Whether you want to support him because of your hate for the other side‘s support of foolishness like transgenderism and other abominable acts is your prerogative you’re entitled to that. But I cannot respect someone that tries to promote a moron as a genius. It’s appalling.

This has nothing to do with Trump. Turns out software engineers are the easiest people to replace with AI. LLMs have access to billions of lines of code and can reference it and respond to a new requirement in seconds.

Google does water freeze at 27 degrees. Good luck with that. AI generated nonsense. It’s great at writing marketing stuff. Facts? Not so much.

like

Product based companies are salivating and pouring money into AI, one of the reasons of layoffs. The other reasons include betting too much on AI and now struggling to get returns, the usual % of failed projects / predictions and lastly the herd mentality of culling management roles, thanks to Mr Musk's antics

I have been gathering data on job titles in my profession (high tech) and in January job postings have jumped considerably and salaries are jumping too. Empirically, tech jobs are advancing rapidly

However, the bar has now been raised so high and competition so fierce, you now have to be a "superstar" whose world revolves around your job and/or profession.

Layoffs are associated with quarterly savings to appease share-holders. A lot of companies are also firing people in preparation for the supposed tariffs that Trump will put in place.

Because even with just taking Econ 101 I knew that the things that he said would help the economy would do the opposite but most Americans are not smart enough (sorry) to get that

I just started looking for a job and made some profiles on various job boards. I'm getting a lot of emails from recruiters that look like this. Whenever I talk to them on the phone it's very hard to hear them and the whole thing just seems a bit fishy. They ask for my DOB, and one asked if I would sign something so they could market my profile. Is this a scam?
I've censored names, addresses, and phone numbers.

I saw someone else do this, so imma give it a shot. Lately, I’ve been applying to iOS developer roles and I’m getting TONs of calls and callbacks from HR and recruiting managers, but then when my resume gets pushed to hiring managers they seem to often get peeved at how little years of experience I have with the title “iOS developer”…
which is fair, and to show my credibility I published my first app last week, but I’m still getting similar messages from recruiters this week. Idk what to do??

I went from a tier 1 engineer in managed servers to team lead with about a 10k increase in salary.I’m thinking about a 15k increase this time from 65k to 80k. Hi all, was hoping for clarity on offers from FANG/Tier 2 tech I received recently. Base pay is still within range of 130-150K, but equity components have dropped dramatically. For reference, for similar positions, I was receiving grants of 150K - 200K over 4 years for data analyst positions (4-5 YOE) in Aug’21-Feb’22. For personal reasons, I did not accept these offers. Now the equity grants are coming in like 50-70K over 4 years. Is this market wide for non SWE/PM roles due to stock market?

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?!

There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest?
