Sometimes they’ll let recruiters know about the job before they go through all the internal channels of actually getting the job posted. Usually it takes longer to find qualified candidates so they want to get the recruiters started searching as quickly as possible
It's not a red flag automatically if it's not on their website. Sometimes they don't post all job openings publicly or only share it with staffing agencies. If the company is legit and you're interested in the job then follow-up with the recruiter. If you don't hear back then move on.
It's really impossible to know what's happening in a case like that. It could be totally legit and the company simply hasn't posted the job yet. But some recruiters will do and say just about anything, so you always have to be skeptical when dealing with them. The best approach would be to check in with the recruiter, but don't spend a lot of time on it.
It's probably legit, since sometimes we do that to collect resumes for future roles. You might want to ask directly if it’s an active role they’re submitting you for or just one they’re sourcing for.
