from my understanding you and get unemployment, but my suggestion would just be to look for a new job. Almost always there’s no way of coming back from a PIP. Its a company’s way of legally firing you without them being liable in anyway.
Don’t take it personally.
Are you sure you understand your job responsibilities? When you say your team is in trouble and needs your help every day, is that something you’ve taken on yourself? And ‘pretending to be this company person’ is an odd thing to say when you ARE a company person and cash the company check every two weeks. Just do YOUR job, make sure you know what YOUR responsibilities are, and focus on that. If you don’t like “making useless decks” and they want that to be part of your job, then get a different job.
Yes, its difficult to come back from a PIP, not because you haven't improved but its become a tool for the agency to fire you and covering their beehinds. And even if you make it pass the PIP time, if there are layoffs you will be top on the list. Now is the time to start looking for a new gig.
I think I’m stuck figuring out how to move forward because the PIP is based on people having a poor opinion of me because they don’t understand what I do day to day or how much time things actually take. Because they don’t actually do anything. Long term I don’t want to be in an environment where I won’t be seen as good enough. But also I’m like is that actually the case? Do I need to get better? Or is this some relationship I’m being gaslightlit into thinking I’m the main problem in?
In IL you cannot claim unemployment if you are fired due to a PIP because it will be for cause. Some companies may not fight your application for it so you should always apply.
As someone who unfortunately has had to give PIPs I would recommend you get your resume in order and try to find a new job. People have cleared PIPs but for most companies, they are getting their stuff together to terminate you. So get ahead of it. Good luck.
I’ve never seen a PIP where the person wasn’t at least laid off at some point within the year even if they did ‘beat’ the PIP.
It super sucks, but I agree with the people here telling you it’s time to start looking for a new gig.
Very true. My HR team sees a PIP as a first hurdle to termination. An employee can clear a PIP but if the same performance issues occur (and they usually do) we can go to a termination review faster as we don’t do multiple PIPs. This is a long process and exhausting for me as a manager but it checks all the boxes and clears us for litigation.
