Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I know another person who was let go in the manner you were and unfortunately there isn’t much you can do if you were fired for “performance”. Unless you can prove that you were fired for a reason that is illegal , corporate America owes you nothing. My heart goes out to you OP - please hang in there and know that these things are often arbitrary.

It sucks but unless contractual, severance isn't required. Hope you get a good severance package and don't require legal action

Severance is a way to avoid lawsuits due to the release that is signed but is also something done as a courtesy to people. OP is on a PIP which changes the narrative. Sounds like they were termed for performance.
What happed that makes you think there are grounds for legal action?

Take it on the chin and move on
I’m not an attorney, but I have spent a lot of time working with HR on CYA in terminating people. I agree with the other commenters here that you likely have no legal recourse, especially given that you were on a PIP. Unless you can document that you were wrongfully fired for race, sex or some other discrimination, your best course of action is to move on to a new chapter in your career. The only person to benefit through legal action would be your attorney who will take your money to tell you the same thing.
Were you on a PIP?

That is correct. You were officially warned. Little you can do
