Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

It’s great that your faith grounds you and provides you with values. It doesn’t have anything to do with business, or making money, unless for a couple edge cases like working in the church or adjacent industries.
Respectfully, business organizations are much more like the military in that the goal is to be a cohesive, efficient and effective group of individuals working towards a shared goal.
Religion is one of the classic taboo topics for a reason; people have a wide range of experiences with it. It’s best to check it at the door and let work be about work.

Very interesting thank you for your take. I never thought about it like this
I’m glad religion makes you happy but others don’t need to hear that, especially in a professional work environment. For many various reasons, religion makes me uneasy. I also know I’m not alone in this. So what makes you happy might make others uncomfortable…
I’m not trying to be a dick about it but you asked. It’s great you found something that helps fulfill you but not everyone feels that way.

Im sorry religion makes you feel uneasy :( why?
What if my goal isn’t to impose anything on others but what if I’m just being authentic and it is genuinely a big part of my life and comes up in convo?
It's great that you have your faith, but I can understand being advised not to make much of it in the workplace. We tend to work with people who follow various faiths, or no faith at all. And getting into conversations in which we bring up our own religious practices or beliefs can make people uncomfortable.

So what if I don’t mention it in my work place but mention it as a fun fact in my portfolio?
I would say, what is your goal in mentioning it? Talking about one’s faith per se can be off-putting and conversation-ending, because often people simply cannot relate and do not have the language to respond. It’s like seeing a color in nature that no one else can see. But if you discreetly ground your moral values and ethical behavior in your faith, or emphasize its humanistic values rather than its particularistic ones, you stand a better chance of having that faith appreciated. It also helps if that faith is not perceived as proselytizing…no one wants to be preached to.
Sure that makes sense. Please don’t misunderstand my point. My religious practice and the texts they are grounded in are a big part of my identity. And I talk about them at work like anyone else talks about what they did last weekend. But I do think there are better and worse ways to go about it.
Go work for lerma
They do that great jesus campaign that’s all over. The only agency I’ve heard of with any kind of decent rep that so openly is a proponent of religion.
You have freedom of speech, so do as you will. But wonder this, religion is personal, same as sexual life. Would you wander around shouting about your sex life, or would you consider normal any other employee who do it? If your answer is no, then you have your answer about displaying your faith.

What if someone asks me what I like to do outside of work - do I hide that?
I don't think you need to hide it as long as you aren't trying to impose it on others. Like others said you have freedom of speech so you can definitely talk about what is important to you.

Yes I’m not trying to impose it on others and don’t want to hide it either. Thank you!
