You gotta call them recons. It sounds so much cooler that way. Like Zero Dark Thirty, but accounting
Nothing makes them sound cool
I just got my first ever job as a bookkeeper’s assistant and they immediately taught me how to. You’re trying to tell me people who are in the field for years don’t know how to?
Auditors review others’ work despite never having done it themselves.
Big 4 alumni, CPA, and making multiple six figures. I’ve never reconciled a bank account. Am I a failure? Guess I’ll go cry into all my money
I bet you don't even know Quickbooks, too! Please stop calling yourself an accountant.

Hey there 👋 CPA here. Have never reconciled a bank account in my life. Not even sure what that means.
That is not as intuitive as it sounds. If you are talking to staff I hope you can teach them. If they are a client, buckle up. Late nights in your future but hey good news is they really need their auditors.
Not only does your post show little patience but now you’re yelling at someone who definitely knows how to reconcile cash and teach staff how to test it and is simply suggesting you be helpful with your knowledge.
You can’t make me. I am physically larger than you
You should post another complaint about bank recs
Ok, staff. Back to work.
Helpful…
Confirm each deposit with what’s in the software. Confirm each withdrawal (which should be done everyday) provide positive reinforcement and help people learn.
Ok Mr know it all
Why don’t you say that to my face tough guy 💪🏻👊🏻🫵🏻
Oh another Staff on a power trip.
Why is Glassdoor just a social media for cry babies these days? Get the work done and out the door, then get paid. It's busy season, no time for whining
You're very welcome
Chief
Those babies reconcile themselves these days
I’ve run across this my career. I think it’s actually pretty common and highly worrisome.
Okay. I can reconcile a bank account. Now what?
You stay in, "Now." Lol
I've met several Big4 accountants that don't even know Quickbooks!! I have no clue what they are teaching kids these days, obviously not accounting.
I have never used quickbooks or will never need to use quickbooks. Why does that mean I never learned accounting?
Ok

It’s the most critical control considering directly impacting cash of the company. I have seen seasoned auditors signing of their review on bank reconciliation and me finding a parked entry later when I took over the role for the department. Having degree is one thing and having experience/skills is another. In this world of digitisation and reconciliation tools, task is much easier. I would not have risked someone doing my bank reconciliations, whether having a degree or not having a degree!
Jokes on you, I don’t have to do that to make partner.
That was a joke… Any competent accountant understands the concept and can do that. It was literally on the AUD exam for CPA lol
The COE will test Cash. As well as Pension, Goodwill, Intangible Assets, Payroll, Payables, Receivables, Debt/Notes Payable, etc. I just test boring controls that nobody cares about.
