Have work and trainings to do and can’t bring myself to do anything. I’m so burnt out I really can’t do this anymore

Ask yourself what it is about your position that you don't like. Is it more fundamental to the field? Is it the service line? If you could change something to make it better, what would that be? And is the reason you're burning out due to the nature of how you're approaching work? I had a great mentor my first year that stressed the importance of compartmentalizing your life a bit so that work doesn't spill over to everything. Easier said than done, but that helped me on my way to senior.

I have asked my coach to stay on the clients that I do like and hinted at removing the one I don’t and the clients I like were the first ones removed 😔

It’s the team and the monotony. I liked it when I had lots of different engagements, cause inevitably it meant you’d wind up working with at least one person you like. Now my client is year-round and I don’t like the team or the actual work for this client. I would change teams first but for actual satisfaction with my job I’d have to change service lines (advisory) and I don’t think that’s possible 😢

So I think you need to communicate that to someone on the resource side. Big jobs with year round budgets will typically offer you more political capital but of course can sometimes come with monotony. I would reach out to your career coach asap or relationship leader if you are getting to a critical point. There may be someone that on a series of small jobs that needs the stability of a larger one. Lots of associates I feel don't actually make themselves heard to RMO, which is why we end up losing them. You're still very interchangeable at the early staff level so try if you really want those types of engagements.

I’ll talk to my coach again but I’ve tried multiple times to communicate without complaining and it’s clearly not working

I would say try to hold on no matter what... think what's a couple of years in a 30 years career

like

What's your level and service line? That dictates what the next steps are imo.

I’m staff level 😔 tax

Unfortunately given my lack of experience I shouldn’t be going anywhere until I make senior but I know I can’t last that long

And the burn out is due to being scheduled “busy season” hours (or more) January-December 2017

And I completely agree there is absolutely nothing better than when you have a great mentor.

I had a few but have since rolled off those clients or they’ve quit

I think be clear about what you want and why and they will work with you. No big 4 wants to lose potential tax seniors with all the revenue that will be coming in for the next year or two. Possible that the communication didn't go through from your coach to resource management. Follow up and ask about why on their end if it was intentional.

Thank you this is helpful I’ll take your advice
