If you could give your younger self one piece of advice about dealing with imposter syndrome as a leader, what would it be?

Don’t dismiss “imposter syndrome,” but consider it a data point that indicates where you feel underprepared or vulnerable - and then either spend more time in that area OR find someone who is strong in that area and team with them. It’s a fallacy to assume you’ve got every necessary skill, so use imposter syndrome as a guide for where you need to seek out others - and have the confidence as a leader to acknowledge what you don’t know.

If you feel like an imposter in every aspect of your job, seek therapy. No one is completely competent or completely incompetent, so if you can’t recognize your strengths, figure out what is at the core of that.

It's okay to feel a little bit like an imposter. If you never questions your own abilities, that would mean that you're not being challenged to learn, grow, and developed yourself. If you're doing things right, there will come a point in time where you will not be sure if you're equipped to handle what's being thrown at you. That's when you'll either have to push yourself to the next level and rise to the occasion, or recognize that you've risen to your level of achievement and may need to take step back. Not everyone is meant to keep rising indefinitely through the ranks. Look at imposter syndrome as a reminder to check your assumptions and assess the situation as a whole.

My dad would say… “learn one new thing a day even if it is finding the restroom “!

well i discovered that imposter syndrome is a tip of an iceberg.

i wish i knew this before and addressed traumas which led to certain beliefs about myself and life much much earlier.

if i could go back to my twenties, i would do:
1) EMDR psychologist
2) Hoffman process 1 week
3) read the audiobooks: "Complex PTSD from surviving to thriving ", "Immunity to change" by R.Kegan, "a path through the jungle" by S. Peters

It’s ok if you don’t know. My former boss used to say “I don’t know” all the time, and she was one of the founders of the org. You don’t need to have all the answers, just reach out to whatever resources you have to get the answer.

Ignore what ww say
