If you could tell your younger self to avoid or not do one thing, what would it be? Before I got my teaching credential I went to school to be a vet, with no prior animal experience to speak of. Stupid idea, I lasted 2 quarters and wasted a lot of money.

I did the same. Should’ve been a vet. I would tell my younger self to not waste my time being a teacher. Stuck making horrendous pay in an already diminishing career.

I’d say avoid hiding who I am in the classroom. Yes keep it professional but my first like three or four years as a teacher I basically just taught and has no like me decorations in my classroom. Then when I started to being in like my lego sets and just some posters/decorations kids seemed so much more comfortable in my classroom and wanted to connect. Now my classroom is filled with lots of stuff that truly makes my classroom me and also uplifting decorations to my students with motivational posters etc…

Is it problematic to say my ex-wife? I also lost a lot of time and money, although she definitely helped me finish school.

Enjoy the private school experience but buy back the years right away!!!
I’m 4 years from where I should be able to retire and found out it will take $200,000 to pay back those 6 years!!!
Needless to say, I’ll have to teach 10 more years versus just 4.

I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade supplemental math. I want to use pencil / paper this year, because I feel my kids didn't do as well online. I don't mind using it occasionally but want to utilize interactive notebooks. Does anyone else feel this way about math or have suggestions?

My district has finally gone 1-to-1. Is there a good app or website that I could use to have students submit answers anonymously while going over problems in class? I did this last week using Kahoot to go over a state testing review packet. It was great because I could see how many got the right answer and move on if no one missed the question. However, I would like to do it without having to create something in advance. I hope this doesn't sound confusing.

What’s your opinion on math homework? I teach 4th grade and have always given it but I’d like to see what others do and weigh out if it’s really worth it. I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

Thanks for any advice.
