You sound like a great friend......... 🙄
No. You don't know what their personal situation is. Unemployment helped me afford groceries when I was taking care of my mom dying of cancer. Unemployment eventually runs out and isn't that much anyways.
Omg! Mind your own business! I hope i never happen to have you as a "friend"
Omg OP you're the reason Trump won
@PwC6 Clearly you haven't been paying attention. OP has "I'm with Her" bumper stickers all over their Volvo.
If they're committing fraud it'll catch up to them naturally, you can relax and focus on being a friend
Depending on the state it's between 300-400 every week for a max of 20 weeks or so, so it's not massive. Also he paid into it - its benefit he's earned so why the f is that fraud? Doing some side consulting on the side while riding it out seems smart to me. I'm doing the same thing. The lay off was a shock so yeah, it's going to take a while to get my shit back together and I'm not taking just any job that comes along because f I don't want to. Is every moment of your day 100% productive? Why are you judging your friend so much?
That is an unreasonable expectation. You're not his spouse/custodian/guardian. As his friend you may voice your opinion and offer advice, but this is overreaching. Quit meddling in his life.
Also, when you apply for your thing each month, they warn you what is fraud and you click that you understand the requirements. Like I said, I doubt that $300/month can really fund that many lavish dinner and trips. Also, lifestyle adjustment is hard as is being unemployed. Maybe he needs them to stay in a good emotional place. If he truly is doing the wrong thing, it will catch up with him so chill.
@d1: I totally understand that scenario. But I would say his situation is quite the opposite where under the table transactions and govt benefits are doing him quite well to the point where he is not looking to get a job. I see it like someone trying to break into an apartment. Calling the authorities would hurt that person's reputation but isn't that the right thing to do?
What do you hope will happen when you report him? He'll realize you were right and he was naive, then you'll smile with smug satisfaction?
You can't be serious dude. Don't refer to him ever again as your friend now that this thought has passed your mind.
Also, are you sure he's partying in Singapore or are you going off of social media? Sometimes people fake things for appearances. Also, was he working abroad when he started his unemployment and decided to stay? Is his family funding him? You don't know what his deal is. If it bothers you, stop being his friend and work on your own life. Karma does catch up to people; it isn't your job to serve it and will only make you more negative and toxic as a person. Step away, wish him well, and do you.
Not looking for judgement, guys. Genuinely asking since unemployment benefits are being used to fuel Lavish dinners and trips. @advisory1: not applying to jobs, receiving money from family and govt, not being in area of receiving benefits to start work when available
Lol OP take out that stick up your ass...
Wow! Can't believe OP is getting completely ripped for asking your opinion on this. It's ethics- ever heard of them? I had an acquaintance do something similar and I always wish she never told me. I didn't turn her in but never had any respect for her either.
OP having been blown up before unemployment isn't enough for lavish dinners, unless there are no other expenses. In NY it's 405 per week max.
That's true @a3. But somehow I don't feel it's right to let this keep going despite warnings from me and others
So the fraud part is that he's not actually unemployed?
Fraud is that you're supposed to try and get employed. He is not by any means.
I would hope he gets serious about finding a job. Is that an unreasonable expectation?
This was a planned job loss, d3. He was seasonal and can go back whenever he wants.
Spiteful, ignorant, ok with fucking up somebody else's life- sounds a lot like a Trump voter. Just saying
