You’re right, however, candidates have to do all they can to stand out in this job market. We no longer live in a world where humans are evaluating our experience. We have to have keywords and certifications in order to get through the ATS tracking system. So I can’t blame candidates for doing all they can to get employed.
True and nowadays the system is structured for the certifications. I know I’m the exception not the norm
Problem is that HR's neverending meddling forces people to chase certs that may/may not even be needed. Some cases well exceed the scope of the position. Seen plenty require a CCNA/CCNP, MCSA/MCSE, and/or CISSP... For a level 1 script reading help desk.
