Apply broadly to firms with lev fin openings in your desired city. Reach out to folks who attended your law school who pracrice lev fin and ask if there are openings at their firms.
Yeah you could probably get interest in lev fin but regulatory is completely different
I guess my question is how do I go about marketing myself outside of my current area?
Each recruiter I speak to tells me essentially I’m on my own (or doesn’t even answer my email) when I say that I want to switch practice areas.
But, I’m kind of at a loss about what I start needing to do to be effective in doing this type of job search alone
I am in a similar situation. I did CRE for 3 years. I am bored with it ... looking to transition into another practice area but still within the corporate/transactional realm. Recruiters really have only been open to working with me if it is a CRE position. That is to be expected though because obviously the odds are lower for me to get a position in a practice area I have no direct experience in. They only get paid if I get a job. I have been applying to all different sorts of jobs, even if I am underqualified. I also have been focusing on networking a lot within the practice areas that I am interested in.
Like you want to do banking regulatory or lev fin?
At this point, lev fin would be my preference as my skill set is more aligned with it. But, I originally wanted to do the more regulatory work.
