I’m a 7th-year associate making $220k in a mid-size market, and it feels like I’ve hit the ceiling. No clear path to partnership, and unless I move, I don’t see a big comp jump anytime soon. Do I stay where I’m comfortable, or start looking before I become 'too experienced' to be marketable elsewhere?. I’ve been comfortable here, but I'm noticing recruiters are less interested now that I’ve been in one place so long. It’s starting to feel like I’m being quietly parked. Is it smarter to jump before I’m stuck, or ride it out and hope for internal movement?

You’re smart to be thinking ahead. Start quietly exploring options so you’re ready, not reactive. Staying isn’t wrong—but do it intentionally, not by default.

I’m in the same position. 11th year associate in a major market. Making $190k, bonus maybe $15k if I’m lucky. No path to partnership and I’ve pretty much been told this is about as high as pay goes for associates. Commercial lit billing around 1800-2000 a year

I’m jumping ship for other reasons but yea if you feel you’re stuck with no real path upward, never too late to make a change

Where do you think I’m at

Time to bounce. How much did you start at and what raises did you get? Do you like your job? How many clients are yours?

Definitely time to explore your options, and I'd bet you can find some opportunities with higher comp

220 TC or base? Never hurts to polish the resume and start shopping yourself around, or to decide if you want to go out on your own.

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
