I’m a midlevel Big Law associate applying for in-house positions that ask for experience drafting and negotiating agreements. I have negotiated a few agreements, but I am light in the area, though I have the substantive knowledge and I’m comfortable marking up agreements. If asked about my negotiation experience in an interview, I plan to talk about the agreements I have negotiated and some of the issues that came up. How would you recommend I talk about my negotiation skills in an interview?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

Tips for bankruptcy associates who eventually want to move in-house? 3rd year associate in bankruptcy/restructuring group doing mainly bk lit but a few deals too. Need to stay in BL for at least another year for the money, but eventually want to move in-house. The path to in-house seems more straightforward for general commercial lit or more standard transactional practices. Any tips for someone who’s practice is a bit of a hybrid (and who will never likely do discovery or handle a depo)
