Sandwich artist
I think all of us should gang up on the job market and flood it with our sandwich shop startups. No graphic designers left to recruit, because we are all in sandwich shops living the dream, ha. I'm considering to go to a career counselor. I'll write down all my skills and see if they can point me in a more stable direction. We'll get through it brothers and sisters!!
I can't blame anyone for feeling dispirited in this job market. This has been an awful year, and too many organizations just have no confidence in things getting better, meaning they're not doing much hiring. All anyone can do is stay persistent, though the sandwich biz does sound attractive. Sandwich art could be a big winner.
I feel it brother
My in-laws made millions making sandwiches, FYI.
I would highly encourage you to depending on skill, network and whatever prospects you may have. Maybe parallel path another gig in an industry with far more stability and the ability to build more tangible merit you can leverage. The earlier you start this, the more prepared you will be especially as you age. It gets harder politically and harder to stay motivated because life inevitably gets more complex and your desires and goals shift despite how much you love the work you do. Coming from someone who loves Design and problem solving that engages and inspires onlookers or anyone who experiences the work. Good luck to you.
When I graduaded uni as a designer, i literally worked as an intern for FREE for SIX MONTHS. It was only after this that I was able to get my first job. As humiliating as a 6 month free internship is, that internship experience has managed to help me get so many of my jobs since grad. I was doing a free intership, and 2 part time jobs at the exact time for a course of 6 months until I landed my first design job... which was a solid year after finishing uni. I know its hard but do not give up, continue building your portfolio.
