You might as well take advantage of the fact that you've got leverage here. If they say no to the increase, you've still got the other job to fall back on if you so choose.
I would ask and see what happens do so in good faith and don’t be greedy.
As long as you have reason to ask for one and are realistic with the numbers. They might be willing to negotiate on something else if the comp bump isn’t on the table.
Coach
Given that you have two offers on the table, you have the leverage to negotiate. Use that leverage. Don't push too hard, but if you ask and they withdraw the offer, you still have a backup.
If you've got a new job and a viable offer, you can try to get the current job to match the offer. Though from what you're saying you might be better off long-term to just go with the offer for the specialist role. In that case, you could try to negotiate the offer up a bit. You're not out of work, so that's a bit of leverage. But you may not want to push it too far and get the offer rescinded.
You're not the first one to have a change up at the final hour. Do what you think you may regret not doing in the future. Just do it with grace and in a way that doesn't burn bridges. HR will understand.
Thank you, I have the recruiter who had recruited me for this role and she tells me there’s a hard stop at the base that they offered me and that I am at the top of the range. And she mentioned before I even got the offer that there’s no room for negotiation. Should I talk directly to the business or should I talk to the recruiter again?
Absolutely
As others have said, you have the leverage so go for it!
