I am really sorry to hear about the lay-off. I was laid off about 8 months ago and the job search has been really rough. It sounds to me like that might be a green-flag. Just take it step by step. Hopefully you will land the role!
A big green flag for me is when they flip the script and start selling the role or the team. Stuff like why they enjoy working there, what keeps people around, or what they’re trying to improve. That usually means you’re still in the running and they want you excited.
I agree that when there is somebody who appears a strong candidate, I will tell them why I have been with the agency as long as I have. It’s typically about the people I work with, the quality product and a strong and straightforward process. Very nice
I normally describe what a typical day looks like to each person who sits down for an interview.
However, if I feel they are a bad fit for the position or if they are showing subtle disappointment in what they hear so far, I will likely add emphasis on some of the more negative parts of the position to discourage them.
In this way, I am seeking out a more honest opinion of the work. Although some will step up at that point and more confidently show their interest, others will eliminate themselves quickly by showing their true dislike of the work.
