I’m back on the market after my position was cut last week. My firm is bringing in an outside group for more technical tasks, and they aren't in a position to offer internal training to low-level folks like me to meet those requirements. I'm not sure how to handle this in interviews without making it sound like a skill gap. How would you frame this to sound positive?

It would be best not to bring that up at all. If your position was cut, just have a simple explanation for why that is. No one is going to be shocked, especially in 2026, to hear that positions have been cut somewhere, so just say it was a RIF and don't get into any details of what your former employer intends to do at this point.

No need to even bring it up. Focus on pitching your skills and experience instead of what you can't do or don't have.

Do you have an accounting degree? Feel free to reach out to me at Liz dot Forrest at yptc dot com. We are hiring associates and staff accountants around the country (USA). It’s easier to get an interview if you are referred and I get a bonus if you are hired. Win/win.

I am right there with you—got cut this week too. I honestly wouldn't even bring that up. I would focus more on what you bring to the table and what you can bring to the role rather than what you might be lacking.

Hi All,

Need some career advice.

I have a year of experience in a clinical ops role where learning is quite stagnant. I’m eagerly looking to transition to good challenging opportunities in life science consulting/analytics and allied domains. Which organisations/startups/roles should one apply to being a non-technical applicant with a masters in biotechnology?

It would be really helpful to get your guidance on further course of action.

TIA!

Is this cert worth it? Or should I try one of the more advanced ones ? The data analytics one for example but wasn’t sure if it would be difficult to get through as a beginner. Will it look good on my resume?

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
