If I were you, I'd highlight relationship-building, communication, and client understanding from sales; frame those as marketing-aligned skills.
I don't mean to discourage you, but marketing is dealing with very high unemployment which means employers have a lot of very experienced candidates to choose from for cheap. It may take a long time for you to find work, and your best bet will be doing it through networking.
What type of sales roles have you had?
I think it depends what area of marketing you’re interested in, but showing you’re able to review and digest information and then communicate in a way that’s easy for your target audience to understand is huge. Ultimately marketing is part of the sales funnel, so showing any understand of that can help. It might also be good to start volunteering for marketing support at your current role to show you’ve done it
Data analysis, if it’s cpg then you understand the sales cycle, customer needs etc. what’s your sales background in?
