I love Arsicault!
Breadbelly and Arsicault in SF are tiers and tiers above the rest. The others mentioned in this thread are also very good.

Check out Infatuation SF, I like and agree with a lot of their recs and they have a number of posts on bakeries but my personal favs are b Patisserie for their chocolate and seasonal Chinese kouign amans, Ariscault for their ham and cheese and chocolate/almond croissants and Tartine for their banana cream tarts and scones (I make their scones regularly)
