Im currently at an asset manager in a non-investments role and considering seeking a company scholarship to attend law school. I’m 30. I’d break even on the 3 yr salary give up and the higher salary post law school as in house counsel in ten years from now, but could leave and not have to payback tuition at year 9. What are the salaries for a lawyer with 5 years experience in Philly? Am I crazy to consider this?

A friend was told their firm will cut ties EOY if certain things don’t improve. Friend had planned to quit in the next year anyway (to start their own business), so there is no real incentive to bend over backwards. Friend’s goal is to keep the income for a little longer, but to minimize conflict / headaches. What’s the best move here? Wait until EOY and take the severance? Give 6 / 9 / 12 months’ notice now? Is there such a thing as too much notice? Could too much notice backfire?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?
