I’m debating whether to move firms now or wait until I have another year of experience. I feel like more experience will open more doors but I'm worried that waiting just delays the move. For people who switched firms early in their careers, did timing make a big difference in your options?

Important context to inform an answer:

How long have you been practicing?
How long have you been with this current firm?
What is your practice area?
Do you want to continue in that practice area?

There are myriad other variables that would inform this decision (which metro area are you in, what’s your school rank), but I’ll stop before someone reminds me that this is a Wendy’s.

If you are at your first job, and you have been there at least a year-and-a-half, you could probably start looking. I think more spots open up with 3 years of experience (they no longer think they need to train you from nothing).

I’ve been working for my State Farm agency as a team member for 2 years. I am licensed in property and casualty as well as life and health, but only make $13 an hour. I technically can make bonuses but I’m not supposed to dig into a sale and I have to send it to a sales rep (I am service and retention mostly). My boss also has me running a retired agents office until a new one is chosen (its an hour away with no pay increase or mileage pay). Also, no benefits! Should I start job searching?

I need some career advice. I finished my master's degree in international law (B.A.Sc international relations) but I am not sure where to go from here. I always wanted to join a big firm and I've applied to different vacancies in international firms/companies but got rejected from all of them.
Does anyone have any tips on certain job positions or companies where an LLM would prove to be useful with my background?
I'm starting to feel quite stuck in this situation and it's very demoralising.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.
