I'm hitting the job market again and a few times I've seen applications ask for references right off the bat, which feels like a major red flag to me. I'm not about to waste the time of people I respect before a company has even bothered to talk to me. What are some of the instant things that make you nope out of an application?

After 1 month of BGV doc submission I have not received any communication. HR says to check after some time.
What to do? Is this usual?
Do I get any confirmation on completion of BGV?

I feel like I am very naive and cannot read between the lines, so I can’t tell if someone is trying to fuck me over or not. This leads me to be extremely skeptical of others’ intentions, and makes me less confident that I can influence others, and in general really erodes my self-confidence. If you're looking for inspirational films about addiction I highly recommend The Resurrection of Jake the Snake Roberts. It's a documentary about the wrestler who had about as bad an addiction problem as you can imagine. It goes through his problems, despair, but also shows his road to recovery through platonic love, support, and he finds redemption. It's great for anyone like me that tried and failed to get sober for years. I have over a year now for the first time.
