What do you think about the mismatch of labor and employment laws and the modern nature of our economy after the technological boom? Am I the only one who thinks (and am I crazy to think) there are some benefits to workers from the gig economy, and it might be best long term to pass new employment laws to ensure worker protections while maintaining these benefits instead of trying to shove the current gig economy back into the 1960s? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I don’t see why any employment attorney would not want gig workers treated as employees. P firms would have many more clients to put into suit and that makes work for D firms like mine. Also the right thing to do for the workers. Only losers are employers themselves and their employment practices insurance carriers.

It does. But it doesn’t prevent us from extending it to contractors in the gig economy...

How much cash do you keep in bank accounts? I have 50% in RE, 25% in market through retirement and education accounts and 25% in cash. Always think it’s too much cash but have never been able to gather courage to put more than 25% in market which I already have through 401K and 529. Any ideas on what to do with money just sitting in the bank earning no interest with 9% inflation eroding the value every single day

Job offer extended but now some red flags… I was extended an offer today with a pay raise and great benefits. It’s in a field that interests me more but, now some red flags have come up. They voided my offer after asking for time off way in advance in December of this year & the pay that was discussed on the phone is different from my offer letter. I asked the recruiter to clarify and she said I must’ve not heard her correctly on the phone. I’m not having second thoughts… I was excited.

Looking at exits into pharma and biotech. Have an opp at a biotech at the SM level. Total comp excluding equity is around $190k; RSUs vest over 4 years with annual refreshers, so first year equity would be around $6,200 and it would go up by $6,200 each of the next 3 years, plus whatever base bump I get. Very good benefits package.

They envision 2-3 years before I jump either to AD or right to D. Solid opp? Or hold out to go straight to director level?
