Use a personal day if you really want this job. It is tough, but it is what it is.
Yes! Everybody does it. Use a day!
Take the day or afternoon off.
Use a personal day or heck call in sick that day (sick of working in this place)!
I know I know it’s wrong to lie, but who hasn’t used a sick day for non-medical appointments? I commend those who haven’t!
You can try explaining that your schedule makes it impossible to get there at their preferred time and see if they could possibly make an exception. It sounds like that isn't likely to happen though, so you might not have any choice but to use a personal day to attend the interview during their preferred window.
Lie. It's none of their business. Make a day of it. Sleep in. Call it a mental health day.
Take a sick day.
Having entered the field of ed after years working a corporate job where people are always looking for the next great job, I am always surprised when teachers struggle with moving their careers forward. You take a day off and share nothing until you secure the new position, then you give notice and thank your current principal. I understand the conflicting feelings, but sometimes it is necessary to find the position that serves you too. ☺️
Call in sick.. you will have all day. You deserve this!!
What about seeing if an early interview is possible? That could give you enough time to do it and maybe even make it into work afterward. Also, you should probably tell your principal beforehand. That way, if they call, the principal will be in the loop and not caught off guard.
I would take the time and do the interview. However, not having times outside of school hours seems a bit off---I've never heard of interviews only during school hours.
Do they only want new grads who aren't working yet? Do they want teachers who haven't used all their PTO yet?
I’ve only ever done an interview during working hours. In most districts, you need multiple teachers to sit in on an interview, and they only work during working hours.
How about a virtual interview?
Take a sick day. You may not be able to take a Personal Necessity day in that case. Look in your contract.
You need to use a sick day. A WHOLE sick day so that you don't get questions about why you are gone in the afternoon.
Take a day off. No pressure.
