Another option would be to hire a para legal experienced in PI. I could pay the same salary plus bonuses. They would do most of the research/ writing work and I would do the court hearings and settlement conferences. What are y'all's thoughts on that?
This is the best option. Hire a law student if possible
Are you planning on hiring a newly minted attorney or someone with experience? Also, remember, even if your marketing campaign works, those cases won't pay out for a while, some of them will take several years to pay out. Is someone really going to live over 36k until that happens? What if they work on those cases for 2 years and then want to leave, they'd be giving up all the bonus they worked for. I'm not sure I, as an employee, would want to put myself in that kind of bind. Finally, what kind of benefits do you plan to offer? Are you expecting this person to contribute toward their health insurance and retirement?
Where are you located? 36k seems low
Eastern Oklahoma. County population is 80k.
I don’t give a base salary. When I employ an attorney, they are hired as independent contractors It’s up to them to make money. Whatever they earn, it is a 70/30 split plus I pay overhead, bar membership, and malpractice insurance. You want someone who has a list of current clients and can deliver. An attorney with very little experience will have you eating the costs.
That's not employing an attorney that's an of counsel agreement with someone who's a solo practitioner who doesn't want to deal with the administrative hassle of running their own shop.
