Are you considering an MBA? I only ask because that helped me a lot. You have to present in every class so I got a lot of practice and figured out what type of prep worked for me. Any situation where you can force yourself to practice in front of people in a relatively low stakes environment to start will really help.
I don't think I'll ever be a super amazing public speaker (or ever looked forward to it) but I do well enough for a consulting role.
What is the challenge? That you're nervous and your brain sort of locks up? Do you think of a ton of things you could have said minutes after the conversation? Or is it that you don't know your stuff?
Also, pay attention at your own growth. Sometimes we're really hard on ourselves and don't see how far we're progressing.
Know your content very well if you can- I use to think i was fine as long as I memorized the key bullet points prior to a presentation, but after presenting on a topic I knew very well I saw a big difference in how I presented and projected myself.
Take an improv class! Awesome way to work on getting out of your comfort zone. A journalist recommended it to me.
Take 5 shots of Bourbon beforehand
And promptly get fired?!? :((((((
NETWORK! The presentation should be like a conversation. Your energy should flow into the other person vice versa.
