I’m really struggling with being a team player (which I pride myself on) and putting my foot down when I feel like I’m being legit disrespected (as in when my time is being VERY wasted). Anybody have any real life examples of how they balance this?

Can you add an example or two of ways in which you’re being disrespected or time is wasted? I find the key for me has been perfecting the art of matter of fact diplomatic yet matter of fact statements like: This conversation is beginning to swirl can we refocus the next 5 minutes on aligning clear next steps and owners? Or if I feel someone ask asking me to do something that is not my job… “I think X portion of the project is better led by so and so given y”. If it’s a matter of being tasked with menial requests below your pay grade you could say something like, “happy to pitch in but it’s going to be more cost effective for the bottom line to have someone at x level run with this. I’ll delegate this to x and provide oversight as needed”

Again not sure these specifics are applicable but the gist is flag the better way to go about whatever the task at hand is and be clear about where you can support.

When sending a cold email to a recruiter, should you include a reason why you’re interested in the agency? Or keep it short and sweet with your book, resume and what you’re looking for?

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
