I’m seeing on Big4 that firms are finding out staff are working for multiple firms. Is this really that widespread? Past the contract issues, the independence and data privacy violations are blowing my mind

Really makes sense now, the non-responsiveness, slow progress, resistance to spend any days in the office. Would all speak to staff working multiple jobs.

I definitely have 2020-2021 burnout. My productivity overall in 2022 sucked

I bet it's not even 01% of the staff.

Maybe it’s time to measure results and not hours in front of a computer.

Agreed - these people were not delivering, that’s why it’s an issue.

Considering everyone is still short staffed, not enough.

This definitely makes sense because when you work at a big 4 you have SO MUCH FREE TIME! Why not pick up another job or 2?? 😂😂

likefunny

I mean, if you can pull it off, good luck to you. I’ve consistently billed 1900 hours a year for 6 years at Deloitte so this boggles my mind but if you can do it, fuck it give it a shot

I don't see how this is possible. Maybe during slow times but when it gets busy it will be very easy to see who isn't working full time. Personally I don't care what you do when your off the clock. Even another job as long as it doesn't affect the primary job.

likehelpfulfunny

love it….

They are probably just taking few side hustles like doing few returns here and there. I doubt anyone has time for another part time or full time gig.

like

All this is that it shows people treat this as a job and nothing more. They are willing to risk their jobs because they don’t see a real future other than a paycheck.

Working at a place that you enjoy the work and it helps you progress by learning more and in an environment with people you like working with.

I am sure this could be done for awhile undetected in some areas. For example in audit if are willing to lie about having two jobs, your moral code doesn’t preclude you from “dry ticking” or falsifying workpapers. If you weren’t actually getting client support and just making stuff up, you can churn a lot of workpapers upward. Like when I got a workpaper for prepaid a few years ago and something didn’t make sense so I asked for the support. Surprise! She just typed in random numbers and dates. She got so lazy at it she didn’t even select from their detail. Just literally made it all up.

Who has time to work for multiple firms?!

likesmart

It's possible, but not easy, especially during tax season. There are 168 hours in a week. Working 55 hours for each firm would leave 58 hours, or just over 8 hours a day. Not easy but possible if you can get by on 5 - 6 hours of sleep/day. Also, this is in two 11-week spurts. After dropping dead for two weeks after each tax season, put in 35 hours/week for each firm.

Do these so called dual big 4 job people have LinkedIn profiles? What do they look like?

likesmart

Just left a smaller firm. I have a colleague who left a big4 but still has it as his LinkedIn (and he still actively posts). Starting ti make me think (also lines up with his performance and how Noone ever seems to know what he is working on).

The only way someone could really do this is to turn and outsource the work to offshore. It seems like that wouldn’t really scale considering the work would be across multiple forms and projects.

Thank you SA1! I’m from a mid-sized firm so I didn’t pickup on that 🤣😂

I’m so burnt out after a tax season I can’t hardly be bothered to do household chores let alone another job. Anyone who does this is either nuts or has the easiest job ever.

I considers myself a pretty quick worker, if I was fully remote, I think I could scrap the bottom 10% that didn’t get fired at 2 firms. Then again, that would probably take at least a 40 week so pass . . .

I recently had two interviews with a director and a manager for Sr. associate role (DS&AI) at PwC. And then, I was asked to interview with another director. All in all, the interviews went well. But I haven’t heard back anything yet! The directors told me that they are in dire need of people and are hiring like crazy! With the current hits to the stock market, and a serious recession outlook, is PwC still gonna hire people ? If I were given an offer, is it a good idea to join the firm ?
