Find an AD who's got that gorm in their eyes and hang on to them.
You’re working with the wrong Art Directors sis
Gormless? LOL. (smh) I’ll bet you’re a real treat to collaborate with.
You’re working with the wrong art directors.
I met a copywriter who didn’t like it when I wrote alongside at the beginning of concepting. We presented our ideas together… and the CD picked the majority of ideas that I initially wrote. He told me, “I’m the writer.” And I said, “…that was always understood.”
Let’s just say that he got let go from the project and is no longer a copywriter in general.
@srcl1, agreed. two brains are better than one. Never had a problem with a writer who was willing to pull inspiration, design, video editing, or do a deck layout. Or an AD was willing to write some stuff do a few CTAs, or play Copyeditor. But once it gets going creatives fall into the defined roles. Those are my favorite creatives.
Did have a CW try to gaslight me on doing both roles. Never going to work with that dude again.
Concepting meetings?
Better they’re silent than belligerently bad, without a shred of awareness about it
@acd2 that's 8/10 of th ADs I work w.
It's been my experience that this is the norm. I've worked with 3 in 11 years who want to contribute to concepting, not just execute the visual we come up with or add a design to tagline someone wrote.
Treasure the good ones! They are amazing to work with.
Arrogance. We love to see it 👏
Count your blessings.
To be fair, we often overwhelm them with ideas and then say "go away and make it pretty." (At least I do.) But you're right - sitting there and waiting to be told what to do is a production artist's job, not an art director's.
