Different people will want different things, but from what I see it is really common for most to leave before 5 years in. Maybe my company just isn’t for long term consultants though. Would be interested to hear what is the norm for where other people are at.
In my experience people 2 years or less is common, then the 3-5 year range. Usually people that make it 5 years tend to stick around a bit longer.
The best you can do is try to align to a partner that is a real human and values balance. There are always going to be crunch times but this makes it a lot more sustainable to be able to take the ebbs and flows.
There is a point once you have a more unique skill set and have proven yourself a bit that you can say no more often without affecting your brand. It takes time and being really good at what you do though.
