The ethical line probably depends on your role and your organization and whatever their guidelines are. If you're working as a copywriter, you should talk to the creative director or manager you work for and get clarification. Legitimate journalistic organizations would have their own guidelines, which would, I assume, lean against the use of AI.
The ethical line for me is pretty much “Am I still thinking?” If all I’m doing is copy-pasting, that’s too far. If I’m shaping it, I’m fine.
I think outlines and prompts are fine .. its like brainstorming with a colleague. But full paragraphs feel over the line. If they are squeezing you for more while paying less, you should not feel guilty for using tools to lighten the load.
For my company they have a specific ban on using chat gpt (even for emails) so I guess it’s about the boundaries your work may have
