I'm with a group where the pay is low but the content demands are high. I know copying ChatGPT directly isn't right, but I'm already using it for headline and topic inspiration. Where do you think the ethical line is? Is using it for article outlining or occasional phrases acceptable? With the way things are going here, I'm questioning how much above-and-beyond effort makes sense, especially since they're wanting more for less.

The ethical line probably depends on your role and your organization and whatever their guidelines are. If you're working as a copywriter, you should talk to the creative director or manager you work for and get clarification. Legitimate journalistic organizations would have their own guidelines, which would, I assume, lean against the use of AI.

The ethical line for me is pretty much “Am I still thinking?” If all I’m doing is copy-pasting, that’s too far. If I’m shaping it, I’m fine.

I think outlines and prompts are fine .. its like brainstorming with a colleague. But full paragraphs feel over the line. If they are squeezing you for more while paying less, you should not feel guilty for using tools to lighten the load.

For my company they have a specific ban on using chat gpt (even for emails) so I guess it’s about the boundaries your work may have

I just bought an Alexa for my grandma's birthday. Her old radio broke and she's been kind of sad because she can't listen to her favorite music anymore while cooking, so I thought this would be a good pick. She'll have her favorite music right there.

Later today my grandpa tells me she's not been asking Alexa for her favorite music, but for her radio stations instead 😭😂

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation). Has anyone had experience with job sharing in this type of a role?

The argument that climate change is not man-made has been disproven by science over and over again, yet many people believe that the global crisis is either not real, not of our making, or both, in part because the news media deliberately chooses not to talk about it because it doesn't sell enough.

Hello, I wanted to mention that I work as a sports commentator, specifically about soccer. I used to be one of the main journalists for Spanish media, but since I moved to Miami I feel the general passion for soccer is very different 🥲 The energy and commitment are not even close to what I felt in Spain, where some businesses would close if the match was too important. I hope this nostalgia goes away soon.
