In case anyone is curious the designation higher than CPA is known as the USTCP. Known as a US Tax Court Practitioner

It’s a designation that is held by less than 300 CPA’s

It allows you to represent your clients in the US Tax Court as their counsel. You’re a non-attorney member of the US Tax Court Bar.

I think very few CPAs are aware of this designation and I just thought I’d share.

Also, you can’t represent anyone if it is a criminal tax case. Even if it falls under the US Tax Court.

Plan to go to B-school in 3 years (1 year out of UG now). Long term goal is entrepreneurship. Have offers at a MBB firm for a generalist consultant role and at FAANG for a strategy role. When taking an exam for the cpa, is it done on a computer with a keyboard with a numpad and you do all your calculations on an onscreen calculator? Or is it done pencil and paper? Trying to decide on a new personal laptop and wondering if I should get one with a numpad to get used to punching in numbers or just a small one without it.

Curiosity question - I’m a naturally very chatty senior and I’ve noticed that the staff 1s who are starting remotely and living at their parents’ home (which makes a ton of sense with the remote working) that I’ve been working with seem to want to chat about both semi related work stuff and non work stuff a fair amount. If you’re a staff living at home, do you enjoy having seniors who will chat with you about random things or would you rather just get your work done and log off?

For those who moved from a client serving role to an internal role in public accounting while at a fairly high level (experienced manager or senior manager), did you take a pay cut or does your pay stay flat when you transition with minimal increases in subsequent years? Also what role are you in now? I really like EY and the company. I’d like to look at moving to an internal role but I’m worried I’ve priced myself out (currently at around 140k comp in LCOL).

Anyone make it to manager in 4 years? What was your experience like? Was it worth it, or just overwhelming?
