In DC do firms pay for parking, lunches, rides at night? Curious what kind of perks are available at top 50 firms.

No. Lol. 😂 if there is an event you get free food. That’s about it. Better take the metro, homie.

Worked at three top 20 in DC. In order: no, only catered ones and ones tied to events and ones for working weekends, only for late nights.

like

Most big firms will do late night rights or parking, not both. The rides are bc it’s late and public transit/safety concerns

Yes to all except parking where I’m at.

At mine—no for parking (Metro’s close), yes for lunches (three days a week), and yes for rides at night (if you’re brave enough to bill it to a client).

What is the private funds market like in DC? (not regulatory work)

Lol

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. Want some sort of work life balance and wondering if the “lower ranked” big law firms offer this? Could just be my fantasy though…

To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

People who don’t submit their time daily, how do you remember what you did and for how long? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??

It's super frustrating to be "time poor".

That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Consider this…

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).
