Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

That's usually the case, large companies tend to have established rules and norms and salary bands are definitely part of that. It's partly that things become traditional until they're set in stone. And deviating from the standard in one case means they may set a precedent they wouldn't want to set. A small startup has no traditions to break, so flexibility is much more of an option.

Makes a lot of sense. The tradeoff between established bands and flexibility is very true. Thank you!
Of course, imo one of the benefits of working for a small firm (plenty of compromises as well)

Makes sense!
Depends on how well you're willing to leverage yourself, your skills, and knowledge against them in the negotiations + appropriately judging how desperate they are. My current position is navigated, increasing my salary by 100% over their pay band offer by taking on more responsibility outside of the original scope. Works for me, and it works for them.

Very fair. I like that approach a lot
