1. You don't know if it is actually close to Biglaw pay since bonuses are a major source of Biglaw pay, so I doubt it is as good as it seems.
2. Read the thread earlier about going to vacation after 2k hours when your minimum is 1.95k and you'll see how people think this profession works. Essentially they think you work however many hours other people at your firm work regardless of what hours stipulations are. So if people are billing 2500 hours you are SOL and have to do the same/the floor means absolutely nothing.
True! I know there is some bonus structure in place but I doubt it’s the same as big law but if I don’t want to meet bonus targets anyway does that really matter? Also very valid second point…I would hope there would be more wiggle room to say no and have that boundary respected since they’re touting themselves as a sort of “big law refugee” type firm that respects time off but if they’re busy they’re busy

Technical hours requirement doesn’t mean much if actual expectations are high. You have a better chance at finding a firm like that if it’s small, though you’ll need to interview to get a better sense. There are firms like this that exist but they are difficult to find and often highly sought after. There are also plenty of firms that pretend to be like this but still end up working their associates biglaw levels, just for less pay.
Very true! I guess that’s what I’m afraid of! Would hate to trade in this environment for similar but less pay but I guess I don’t know how to ensure I’ve found one of the small firms that does respect time off and I wouldn’t trust a recruiter or interviewer’s characterization of expectations either so it’s hard to figure out

Fully remote litigation? You’re going to be doing research and brief writing. Would that work for you?
That’s something I hadn’t fully considered…given that this year has been fully remote and being a first year at a large firm responsibilities have mainly been research, doc review, and brief writing I just thought it was great I wouldn’t have to go in to the office, could have more work/life flexibility for similar pay, and I’d be doing more of the same. But that could definitely be an issue down the line when I want those opps in my career that only happen in person. So thanks for highlighting that important aspect!
