I cried at my desk for the first time today. Year 3. I’m tired.

Virtual hug. I don’t know what happened but if it is an one off bad day, it will get better. Do only what needs to be done today and be nice to yourself. Take a nice bubble bath, eat that cake or drink that wine/beer. Call a friend who would always take your side and hear why you are so amazing. Sleep early. Tomorrow, you get back up and fix it/finish whatever caused the mess today. In 2 years, this will be a dull memory.

If it is a toxic situation, do the above and on the weekend update your resume. Life is too short to stay at a toxic place.

Thank you. Nothing particularly bad happened, just multiple 13 hour days in a row. I just want to lay down but I still can’t.

Been there. I was exhausted and just couldn’t anymore. This was when we were in the office and I definitely made another associate uncomfortable. But a senior associate I didn’t know well found me crying in the bathroom, gave me a hug, told me she had been there, and told me whatever it was, I needed to sleep. I got through it, things got better. I still remember that hug.

I have wanted to just abandon my practice several times in recent days, honestly, and just go have a subsistence lifestyle in Belize or some shit. It usually passes by morning.

hang in there. this job can really suck and you need a good support group and some real TLC for the self care days. sending you a hug!!

Be proud! You made it to year 3 without crying!

But yeah, it happens. I had a run of 100+ hour weeks last month and broke down at my desk after a partner scolded me for not completing something fast enough. Sometimes it be like that.

I don’t want to burn bridges but also don’t think they are entitled to know everything about me.

How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?

Does anyone use blue light glasses? Do they help? I get headaches almost every day and I’m sure it’s because I’m glued to the screen all day. Wondering how to alleviate them without popping 4 ibuprofens a day.

Anyone else in the “here for a good time not a long time” club? This job gets a lot more tolerable when you don’t actually need it (no intention to make partner, no loans, etc.). I generally do good work, but I’m happy being a B associate, I don’t dwell on small mistakes or what partners think of me, I take my vacations and never overwork myself to “look good”. All this to say, you don’t need to be an A+ associate to stay employed. Try being a B associate, it’s a lot more fun.

Why do firms fire people with low but still profitable hours?
