In terms of feel, what neighborhood in LA is closest to like beacon hill or Back Bay in Boston? Like dense but not highrises, and relatively walkable

There’s one or two streets in Santa Monica and Venice Beach, but realistically it doesn’t really exist in LA. Perhaps right next door to USC or UCLA in student housing, but of course the vibe will be totally different. Larchmont, Silverlake, Echo Park, and Frogtown are worth looking into, but ultimately you’ll need to rethink your expectations of living in LA.

I’m a bit surprised to see Santa Monica here. I guess I haven’t seen enough of it. I honestly don’t think anything here is like back bay or beacon hill. It’s hard. I lived in back bay before here.

Oh that actually makes sense to me. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the historical aspect. That’s really what I miss, so I must be blind to all else. I miss the aesthetic of back bay too, like the bricks and the row houses.

My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. We feel this is taking advantage of tenants during this time and may not be legal. Any advice helps!
