I/o psychologists: How important is it to get a masters or PhD from a well known university to get a good job?

Mmm it depends. What is your definition of a good job?

IMO what is more important than your uni is your ability to understand and apply statistical methods to solve organizational problems. Try and get hands on experience in this area and use your IO/uni’s network to get your foot in the door somewhere.

Your job opportunities will be different with Masters vs. PhD. PhDs still go applied, however.

like

A “good university” may expand your network in this regard. However, the IO community is tight knit and does a nice job looking out for each other.

like

A “good” degree can help with networking/connections/getting a foot in the door during your first couple years in the workforce after school, but past that it’s all about your personal KSAOs and experience as others have said.

Enrolled in Stern for a few weeks.
The number of the alumni and current students that go to top consulting firms FT& summer intern are countless even for a small class size.
Stern is way more than a finance school. Given its location, do you want to spend your 2 years in a rural area or heart of Manhattan? Location is almost everything for business school. (I have a friend in Cornell that frequently travels about 5 hours to NYC for events.)

Hi All,

I wanted to ask two questions for the application process at MBB, I was a terrible student in high school thus my SAT scores are terrible but I graduated college with a 3.6, so will that impact my chances at MBB and be screened out by the HR system? Also is there a cover letter template to submit with my apps. Would anyone be willing to connect? Thank you for your time

Will an MBA set me apart? I have a BS in Marketing from top 15 undergraduate business program with a 3.8 gpa, 2 years work experience (3 by the time I’d enroll), and scored in the 63rd percentile on the gmat. This qualifies me for an average business school (ranked below ~50). My goal is to move into a management position within the next 5 years and eventually move into a director or c-suite role. At your companies, do most upper-level marketing employees have an MBA? Is it from a top school?

Can anyone please suggest? If not symbiosis then can I choose any other University for doing the MBA?
