Is anyone a generalist by nature but decided to take a specialist opportunity near term? I’m trying to decide between a generalist and specialist opportunity and see more long term value in the exp of the latter but not sure I’d enjoy it. Thoughts?

being a generalist is more fun but career limiting. i’m about a decade in with 3 different jobs as a generalist and idgaf. i enjoy it and still hate the idea of specializing and usually tell people to fck off when they say it’s a bad move. i make up the loss of $$ doing other stuff i like

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

Hi friends! I’m looking for resources to help me be successful in a “Functional Lead” role.

The role is in FinTech

Anyone out there in a role like this? Any books. videos or even best practices to share?

Currently controller for a $120M PE backed company. Interviewing for a Director of Accounting role for a $1B PE backed company. Would be almost fully remote. Probably around 30-40% salary increase ($40k+). Currently have equity that would cash in upon a change of ownership in about 2 years (likely worth upwards of $200k). Change of industry from restaurant to CPG. Thoughts?

I have just got an options trader job at a prop trading firm. But I knew nothing about options/trading/finance. The firms said they’ll be officially training us once we start. But in the meantime, what are some books/resources that you would recommend to start learning first?

As anyone in restaurants knows, the work is ~80 hours a week and often making less on salary than your own tipped-wage employees. So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
