I started a food blog back in 2012 and slowly got into the social media realm with it. I'm not crazy famous or anything, but I have about 20K followers on IG where I share recipes/ingredients, etc. I wouldn't say it's the most lucrative side gig, but between the blog and IG, it brings in an extra $200 a month with affiliate marketing. I never got into it for the money, though. I just love to cook!
Congrats on the following! Keep it up
I started in social media for fun, then slowly made until 15k followers just by sharing tips and ideas for mothers. So, I guess people like to follow what gives them value in some kind. Try teaching something, give them value the results will come!
It’s the best when you do it for the genuine enjoyment!
Are you starting a business or personal account? Because the tactics would be vastly different. I started an IG account with fragrance reviews 3 years ago and got 1000 followers in the first 2 weeks, which I thought was quite fast. I wasn't very active on it since then and it stayed at around 1000 followers (which indicates that most of them weren't follow for follow or users trying to grow their own accounts). I think I could easily grow it to up to 10K if I had time to work on the content. I'm not sure my advice is helpful since the algorithms have changed since then with reels and stuff, but what hepled me was spending a lot of time on the platform leaving thoughtful comments to others' posts.
I’m looking for personal account. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Social media “success” is dependent on who you ask. Personally, I grew my following by being REAL. I stopped chasing trends and started speaking directly to a niche audience who needed what I had to say. That’s the key: clarity over virality. If you're trying to grow, ask yourself: are you okay playing the game a bit, or do you want to build slow & purposeful?
Thanks for the insight!
I’m a social media manager really the trick is authenticity. Don’t use AI or a bunch of stock images in your content. It’s gonna get lost in the shuffle try to be unique and be patient. You’re not going to have success overnight. You gotta build an audience if you’re not getting the views, you want to go on other creators pages and interact with their post which will encourage them to come back interact with your post.
Yeah I’m learning a lot! I haven’t gotten started but I’m gathering info now.
