Hello Everyone,
Last Monday i.e on 10th Oct, I received a mail from Infosys to submit documents such as Infy Application form, Latest offer/Revision Letter and ID Proof. Its been a week and I have not received any response from them. Can anyone please let me know how much time will they take to get back. 2nd Tech round was cleared on 3rd Oct.
Blow it out one year, document your successes in your performance reviews and ask for more commission based along with the paltry salary. If you have 18-24 months of good sales, you have a lot of clout negotiating into your next role. Never let them know your current salary. Ask their salary range. Commission is key though. Uncapped is critical.
Why would you say this is preferable to switching immediately? Only because of the current market conditions or would you say that in any situation?
You’re making 32k base in Tech sales… i didn’t know Cutco went digital😳 in all seriousness tho, you got played and should definitely either go back to your previous role or find a diff one in the space (which may provide less security because tech is only just now doing layoffs and it’s about to get brutal)
Well I have been in my previous role 6 years and don’t see any potential for growth - in terms of responsibilities, personality, and salary. I would always have the option to go back but would like to avoid that as it in the long run I would also be wasting time building a foundation in tech. For context: previous role was door 2 door sales and not in tech
That is so so low on pay.
You need to apply somewhere else ASAP. Your time is worth way more than this. I don't think you need to wait.
If you can afford to stay, you can do it. I agree that you can learn a lot, and you'll be even more ready for the *real* job.
Six figures is more realistic annual income long term. $32k with no upside as a BDR sounds wrong… $40k with no experience makes more sense. If I were you, I’d interview around to get a good pulse point. I commend you with long term goals in mind. But $32k sounds wrong
Oh, in the UK they don't take taxes, retirement & health insurance out of that right - so you get the full pay? If so... I mean that's still pretty low, but probably the equivalent of making $50k in the US for those who need context. I think $32k base in the US would leave you below the poverty line... in NY at least (the poverty line is $36k). So good to note. Still - I think you should keep your options open to other tech sales positions while gaining experience in your current one. If something better comes up sooner than a year or 2 from now, there's no reason to stay. Just don't quit until you find something better.
Can we ask who u work for so none of us apply?
You’re getting screwed, find a direct hire instead of a subcontractor and get paid what you’re worth. 👍👍
Ditto on what everyone said. Either that company is real cheap or they saw the chance to undercut your pay and took advantage. BDR managers in my org make 60-80 base depending on experience.
If they are undercutting I am not the only one. I spoke to older people (not with more sales experience however) that are in the same role that are getting paid only slightly more
You let them cut you too far. This isn’t a livable wage. I bet there are people doing your same job making 2-3 times what you are. They lowballed you plain and simple
This seems like a super low salary for tech sales. I also just got into the industry (1 month in) but make $50k base. I would be frustrated too if I were in your position.
Totally off, but what was your previous role what kind of sales?
Door 2 door
I’m actually currently interviewing and they offered me the same wage but I’m not going to accept it and fight back —I’m so sorry they low balled you
Way to low , I’m on a 42k salary as a BDR in the UK , and if your a BDM you should be looking at a 55k base as a absolute minimum. My background was working in retail mobile phone sales so I had no prior BDR experience just to give you an idea of what you should be on.
In the US I've found that you can find a lot of tech companies that start this role around $50k for entry level with some sales background. Even if if you're willing to take as low as $40-$45k, your options would endless in my opinion. With just 6 months experience everyone is trying to poach from other companies and you can find something for $60-$65k. Also, I have found that newer start-ups just building our their team tend to pay in the $60-$65k range. Someone commented about how in the UK you take home all of your pay and that it may be equivalent to around $50k in the US, but I have interviewed at around 20+ companies for this position and almost all of them at least paid 100% of health, vision, and dental with other benefits that were pretty standard such as unlimited PTO and anywhere from a $200 - $2000 stipened to set up your office if you work from home. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. You can get great experience for at least $13k more base. That's definitely the lowest I've heard of for this position. Good luck!
I would give it a year. You will make more than 6 figures pretty quickly, but you really need a year experience as a BDR. Do really well and it will open doors.
So you believe it is reasonable to switch roles in a year to be at 6 figures again? Don’t want to stay below for long as I was already well into 6 figures previously
Agree, that's a crazy low salary. Not familiar with the UK market but on the coasts in the US you should be able to make $100k OTE (maybe $60k base) as an SDR with maybe one year of experience. Tech sales is lucrative but definitely work for the company directly versus through a 3rd party / contractor.
Maybe check out Vendition or another program that helps SDRs find jobs.
Curious how you figured you could make 7 figures when you’re making $32K base?
Right now I feel like I am being abused as a work slave
