Ummm define better
In general, I would say it's "better" to be detective. You can work on more specialized departments and do work that is a bit different from what a "regular" officer would be tasked with. I put those words in quotes, because in reality detectives are still police officers and in many places they don't get paid any more
Well, defectives ARE police officers by every definition. In many places, the job switch is almost entirely lateral and doesn't always come with a pay bump. It's hard to say that one is better than the other, it mostly comes down to the kind of work you're interested in doing
Depends where you work. In most places, the only difference between being a patrol officer and a detective is the job responsibilities. Sometimes the assignment is rotated so patrol officers can develop different skills and understand how to help our their counterparts. You might get a pay bump or slight bonuses but I wouldn't say that's the norm
None is better than the other unless you're lucky enough to work in a department that actually attaches a pay increase to becoming a detective. It's just a different assignment for the most part and detectives are, in fact, also police officers since it's more of a role switch that a promotion
It depends on the individual and their preferences. Police officers are responsible for patrolling neighborhoods and responding to emergency calls, while detectives are responsible for investigating criminal cases.
Both positions require excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of relevant laws and regulations. I don't see a difference, besides salary-related, in the jobs.
