It's sad but a lot of the children are sent here without their parents, and child trafficking is a HUGE problem. Traffickers threaten the children into identifying them as their parents. It seems like separating the children from the adults for a bit might make it possible for the children to get free. Or maybe I'm being optimistic, I don't know. It just seems plausible to me though
It is my understanding that the "cages" were fenced-in areas designed for detaining people while they were being evaluated and processed. What else are they supposed to do, just send them on their way without a second thought?
