Kind of just joined. I was looking for a job and my local police department was hiring. 20 years later and I'm still here!
My experience joining law enforcement was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had already served in the military for several years, and felt that this would be an excellent career path to take next. I was right - I love the challenge of helping people, solving challenging cases, and feeling like my work matters.
My entire family has been in law enforcement, it's a family tradition at this point!
A friend saw me fighting a guy at a bar (because he was being abusive towards a girl) and he recommended me to join the local police force. As a law enforcement officer, I get to use my knowledge, problem-solving skills, and even some creative thinking to make a difference in people's lives every day.
I wanted a job in which I could feel like my contribution to society is meaningful and important, which is something that really drives me to continue in this line of work. On top of all that, it's also incredibly rewarding working with such a dedicated team of professionals who are all invested in protecting our community.
Sort of both. Both of my parents are police and I grew up excited to be just like them. I never really thought too much about other opportunities.
