Jokes on them. I started at 18 and graduated at 44.
Wouldn’t it show on your resume anyway?
I hadn't even noticed that. But now that you mention it, they do always ask what year you graduated. It is possible they ar trying to gauge age.
There is plenty of other information you can decipher by knowing a persons graduation year.
For one the coursework someone who graduated in 1995 vs someone in 2015 is going to differ. I’m a lot more curious when they graduated if they went to my university. I couldn’t care less how old they are but as someone with strong connections to my Alma mater it’s nice to know when they were on campus so I can be an old person and tell them what things were like back in my day.
I find it relevant to know how much experience they’ve had post-graduating. Sometimes you can tell from the resume but when people went back to school at a later age the pre-degree experience may not be at the same level as post degree.
I’ve never thought about how old a person is when I’ve interviewed them.
