My creative friends, you are not alone. The industry and leadership always underestimate the roles of project managers and producers, which results in hiring inexperienced individuals who may lack the passion or knowledge needed to collaborate effectively and bring ideas to life. I have built highly successful project management teams for all the agencies I have worked with, but when I left, those teams were disbanded and gradually replaced by fresh graduates with no leadership to provide them with direction. It’s quite sad.
Nope, everywhere I’ve been it always falls on the AD specifically to find the reco directors, vendors, XM people, creators, illustrators, etc etc etc + explain how things should be brought to life. We do the job of a thousand people, get paid the same amount as copywriters and it blows… on top of that, we’re the ones having to build the decks and make everyones slides look presentable. Now I think I’m just venting lol

Every great project needs a champion. Be that champion.
Creative 1, it's obvious this AD is a champion. If they weren't they wouldn't even have this on their radar. Kudos AD for this post I wholeheartedly agree with you. Producers should have their finger on the pulse, just like creatives. It's THEN when you really get magic, imo. The "what about?" and then the other goes "OH that reminds me of-"

No one will care about your idea more than you. A lot of the great work that’s been made over the years have come from the relentless pursuit from the creatives teams.
I find it depends on the agency. Some agencies have more of a system in place for brand acts so creatives don’t have to produce as much. But in other agencies the producers are inexperienced in non-traditional so creatives have to do more legwork. It’s not ideal but at the end of the day this is the type of work experience that will help you in the long run. Knowing how to solve complex problems and find resource are essential skills for leadership roles.
Bit of both on my end. I’ll hang on to certain vendors I’m interested in using and bring them up sometimes but our producers have also come in clutch with suggestions.
Speaking as a producer who actually gives a shit, so many agency producers are dumb 😂
