Smaller deals aren't always easier deals. In fact, they are usually much harder and take more time to organize, reconcile and clean bad data. More management questions, more followups, etc.
The model of having your people on multiple deals because they are "smaller" (and thus lower fees) is inherently incompatible with how those deals actually work. I feel for the S/Ms in those positions - it's a no-win scenario. Your work product is going to be poor almost no matter what.
exactly. They take longer and trivial tasks which you'd be able to whiz thru with good data can take multiple days. clients don't really see this work as value-add tho so the firms don't really get compensated for all this extra work. the fee pressure is part of it as well. So the only solution to make up for it is to work people to the bone but most of time that only exacerbates the problem because all deals are like this.
In what sense?
Totally hear you. That said, it lines up with what I saw at another firm too. Honestly, Big 4 felt even more intense.

I think it's fine. Fee pressure from smaller firms and boutiques causes headaches
Note that smaller fees are usually databook only and turnaround can be 1-2 week if your team focus on the key area the clients want and not bang your head over why this source data doesn’t tie to TB etc…
My experience has generally been good. I think team dependent.
