I wouldn’t call the environment hostile. We’ve worked with a lot of great management teams who just want to make the right decisions for the company. Ultimately, you have to keep in mind that these folks are in very high stress environments, working on potentially sensitive information, and in most instances being asked to work far beyond what a typical day to day is like. I’ve found the professional to professional work can be tense at times, but ultimately we all have to work with each other over and over again so it doesn’t inherently make sense to burn bridges with different counterparties. Certainly varies from case to case, but I haven’t found it to be “hostile” at all.
Things I like: 1) it’s a tangible and rewarding job where we can actually see the impact of our work. 2) there’s a very human / empathetic aspect to it. 3) it’s very collaborative and requires a lot of teamwork and coordination.
Things I don’t like: 1) it can be a pretty tense/stressful environment because our work can often become time constrained. 2) clients don’t always see the value in some of our work 3) workload can be very hot and cold and hard to predict.
That’s awesome - thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It seems like RX really is a rewarding career path. Some additional questions if you don’t mind.
To your point about intense work at times, what typically causes this time constraint and stress, when does it typically happen, and how long does it typically happen for? Is it during the prepetition phase when you are under a time crunch to file a plan of reorg, but need debtor & creditor buy-in? If so, how long does this process typically take? Understand this may vary project to project but just trying to get a general feel of what that’s like…
@Alvarez & Marsal - That makes sense. What would you say the top 3 aspects you like about RX and 3 aspects you don’t like about RX would be?
