A couple questions for the turnaround consulting fishes:
1. Is FP&A experience valuable for restructuring/turnaround consulting? I’m a CPA with experience in Big 4 FDD and a short stint in IB. Total work experience is a little over 2 years. I recently joined a RE company as a Sr FA in FP&A where I expect that I’ll be mostly doing budgeting & forecasting work.
2. If my goal is turnaround consulting, what should I focus on right now to best position myself?

I appreciate any insights/guidance.

CPA And FDD experience IMO is probably most valuable in terms of pivoting into turnaround consulting. Lots of jobs available in Rx - keep networking and looking. Good luck!

Thanks! If you don’t mind me asking, are you currently in RX? If so do you have any insights to the rx market now and in the next year or two? From what I understand, rx has been super slow for the past year or so now. Just trying to get a gauge on timing to break into the industry….

Yes I'm in RX and it's booming for sure

I'll be applying for a Service Desk manager position in the coming months. I'm looking to get a realistic salary range (online ranges vary drastically). I have 7 years experience in IT end user support. 4 years of these 7 years include having direct reporting employees in a supervisory role.

I recently had an interview with BNY for an Analyst role located in DE. The interview went well and I was informed by the recruiter that the team was interested. They asked if I was willing to relocate immediately, and I told him that my decision would be best made if I see an offer. I have not yet received a follow up after this(coming on two weeks) so I know that I've been ghosted. My question is, was I wrong to ask to see the offer before making a decision?

Copywriter with serious imposter syndrome at new job! How do senior writers up their game? Was in-house 1.5 years and underpaid in NYC. With only previous freelance experience (and nonprofit and grant writing before that) figured I had to slog through it for years. Cut to now, 6 months into a new copywriting role at huge tech company. My salary almost quintupled overnight. I think I’m doing great, but that depends on the day and who I work with (no other writers by the way).

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid

For questions as to why you are looking to leave your current firm.. I am looking to move because for some reason I am hand-held a lot and given simpler tasks, so I am getting bored and want more challenging / much more fast paced environment. Also kind of bored because I am on one project for a long time and I want exposure to variety of projects. Is this a fair answer or would I be seen as arrogant? Is there a better way to frame my answer?

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

Additional Posts in Restructuring

Is it true that restructuring/turnaround engagements can get very hostile given the type of work this industry is in (distressed)? Management not being cooperative, overall environment very depressing, internal politics, fraud, management not being cooperative, pressure to deliver quickly, debtor/creditors screaming at each other, etc. Understand this may vary project to project, but is this common?

Am currently not in restructuring but am looking to enter in the future.

I have a modeling test interview for A&M securities coming up. It is for the RX analyst role within their corp fin practice. I know I will have 12 hours to complete the case and it will likely be a 3 statement model. Anyone know of any specific resources I could use to prep? How tough are A&M in their modeling tests?
